The book blurb for In Her Name, First Contact sounded interesting but you never know what you are going to get when you download a free book from an author that you have not previously read. This one was a book that turned out to be way better than initial expectations. Michael Hicks has crafted a great science fiction novel that hits all the bases of things I am looking for. Interesting characters (both human and alien), lots of action, great would building… oh and did I mention lots of ACTION.

The story follows the first contact between a human survey ship and a much higher technologically advanced race (named Kreelans by the humans) and the resulting conflict that ensues after the contact. The humans who are following, at least initially, an all out war strategy and the Kreelans trying as much as possible to make it individual combat. Great combat scenes throughout the book, both in space and on the ground make this a book that any fan of military science fiction should pick up.

I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. 5 Stars for an all around excellent book.
