The Slow Regard of Silent Things: A Kingkiller Chronicle Novella

The Slow Regard of Silent Things: A Kingkiller Chronicle Novella - Patrick Rothfuss I probably should have read more for understanding in the Patrick Rothfuss forward for this book which is shown here:

>>Second, even if you have read my other books, I think it’s only fair to warn you that this is a bit of a strange story. I don’t go in for spoilers, but suffice to say that this one is ... different. It doesn’t do a lot of the things a classic story is supposed to do. And if you’re looking for a continuation of Kvothe’s storyline, you’re not going to find it here.<<<br/>
This was not the book I was looking for in terms of any type of continuation of the KingKiller chronicles. I probably should have waited to read this after finishing up the first two books in that series recently in audio and I might have enjoyed this one more. As it was, this was definitely a strange story that I found lacking in any form of substance. I don't think I would recommend this one to anybody else directly but you should probably make up your own mind on the quality of this short story.

City of Miracles (The Divine Cities)

City of Miracles (The Divine Cities) - Robert Jackson Bennett Review forthcoming

Traitor's Blade

Traitor's Blade - Sebastien de Castell A really fun fantasy read. Looking forward to the next books in the series

The Name of the Wind

The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss, Nick Podehl This was even better in audio than when I read this several years ago.

Central Station

Central Station - Lavie Tidhar I finished this earlier today and not really sure what to think about this. It has some interesting stories within the novel but not really sure what the point of the overall book was.

3 Stars for a novel I am not sure what I fell about it.

Streetlethal

Streetlethal - Steven Barnes A mostly entertaining novel that seemed a little dated in terms of the technology and culture being used in the story. It did have plenty of action scenes throughout the novel and these were pretty good though the plot line about fighting enduced nausea was pretty irritating. I am not sure about continuing on with other books in this series but leaning towards not continuing at this time.

3.5 Stars for a decent action thriller.

Exo

Exo - Steven Gould A decent end to an entertaining series even if it did not contain some of the answers I hoped to have seen. This one had less of the good guy/bad guy adversarial storyline of the past two books but still delivered lots of action and character development as the book progressed. I guess I will always be left a little bit wondering as to how and why these powers were only available to Rice family...

3.5 Stars for a good series and recommended for those reading along.

Babylon's Ashes

Babylon's Ashes - James S.A. Corey This one hit all the highlights we have come to expect from an Expanse story, characters, great action, and plenty of suspense. This one includes the conclusion of Earth/Belter war started in Nemesis Games and you should just strap yourself in for the ride. Jefferson Mays again does an excellent job of bringing the Corey duo's story to life so I can recommend the audio version without any reservations.

5 Stars and I want more, More, MORE of the Expanse.

The Rebirths of Tao (Tao, #3)

The Rebirths of Tao (Tao, #3) - Wesley Chu A decent finale to an entertaining series. Still some open plot lines so guessing that we will see more in this universe...

4 Stars for a fun read.

Brilliance

Brilliance - Marcus Sakey A quick fun read with with an interesting take on an alternate history story. The characters, with the exception of the MC, possibly could have used some fleshing out but this did not really detract from my enjoyment in reading this novel. Looking forward to reading the additional volumes in this series.

Chronicles, Vol. 1

Chronicles, Vol. 1 - Bob Dylan An interesting memoir even if some of the stories told were somewhat wordy and quite a bit offbeat from what was expected. Don't expect a straight story line of Dylan's rise to fame from this book as you will be disappointed as you get into it.

3 Stars for an enjoyable read.
